No writes like Dylan. The hook of love, loss, regret, sarcasm and humor is barbed - you just can’t pull it out. Just like you can’t lose his words. Even if you try. Thanks David. Great piece!
Grew up with Dylan....loved him but not a fan.... would take a long time to explain. Wrote a diatribe after the Nobel fiasco but decided to drop it. Wasn't worth the emotion. I enjoyed reading your insights and ruminations much more. Edie Brickell told me a very funny story about a personal experience with Bob while on tour, but I'd never repeat it in a public forum. Perhaps she'll tell you when you write her biography one day!
This is one of your best! Though I am loving all if the Troble Man musings.
Wow. Just wow. There is so much here. What a beautiful piece.
My top 5 Dylan album, don't ask me the others!!
“… They say I shot a man named Gray
And took his wife to Italy
She inherited a million bucks
And when she died it came to me
I can’t help it if I’m lucky ….”

What an amazing piece on such an astonishing record. More after I read it a few more times and listen to it again.

When Philip Roth learned Dylan got the Nobel, he said, "I think it's okay, and I hope Peter, Paul, and Mary get it next year."
This was lovely.
